Monterrey, Mexico, June 5, 2019.- Arca Continental, one of the top Coca-Cola bottlers in the world, maintains its commitment to environmental stewardship with efforts related to water, energy, and waste.

Arca Continental returns to nature more than 100% of the water it uses in its production processes by investing in technologies to reduce, reuse, and recycle this vital resource, and by promoting rainwater harvesting through reforestation. Through the Reforestation and Water Harvesting Program in which Arca Continental participates as part of the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry, the company planted more than 600,000 trees in 2018, reaching 28 million trees planted since 2012.

In addition, through itsVive tu Parque(Live your Park) program, more than 100 public spaces have been refurbished by building recreational and sports spaces, benefiting the people who live nearby and offering them the possibility of carrying out outdoor activities.

As part of the efforts made with respect to energy, approximately 40% of the energy Arca Continental use in Mexico comes from renewable sources, such as wind power and biomass from the sugar mills with which we collaborate.

In terms of waste, Arca Continental is one of the main drivers behind the industry’s circular economy. Through PetStar—the largest food grade PET recycling plant in the world—more than 1.64 billion PET bottles were recycled in 2018.

In Mexico, 70% of the packaging used by the company is recycled and transformed into new bottles. We incorporate an average of 30% recycled content in our PET packaging, and up to 100% in the Ciel, Sprite, and Fresca bottles.

We also work hand in hand with The Coca-Cola Company in the countries where we operate to reach the objectives of the World Without Waste program, striving to make every package 100% recyclable, to have them contain at least 50% recycled resins, and to be able to collect 100% of the packaging we send out into the market.

With actions such as these, Arca Continental reiterates its position as an agent of positive change in society and a benchmark in environmental stewardship.
