Arca Continental Invests MXN 25 Million in New PetStar Collection Center in Mexicali

• The new center will have the capacity to recover up to 54 million PET bottles per year.

• The investment strengthens Arca Continental’s and PetStar’s leadership in PET recovery and recycling in Mexico.

   

Mexicali, Baja California, August 31, 2026.– As part of its commitment to sustainability and advancing the circular economy in Mexico, Arca Continental, one of the world’s largest Coca-Cola bottlers, invested MXN 25 million in a new PetStar Collection Center in Mexicali, inaugurated alongside Coca-Cola Mexico and PetStar, in collaboration with the Baja California Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development.

This new infrastructure strengthens Arca Continental’s and PetStar’s leadership in PET recovery and recycling in Mexico and will have the installed capacity to recover up to 54 million PET bottles annually, helping ensure these materials can be reintroduced into the production cycle. 

In addition to its environmental value, the Collection Center will strengthen the local value chain by serving 30 Collection Partners, primarily MSMEs dedicated to recovering recyclable materials, and will help generate approximately 650 indirect jobs for urban collectors and other participants in the recycling value chain throughout the region. 

“We often speak about sustainability as a distant goal, but today, with the opening of this collection center, we are seeing that goal materialize through concrete actions, real infrastructure, and the commitment of our people and companies such as PetStar, Arca Continental, and the Mexican Coca-Cola industry that have invested in caring for our environment,” said Martín López Navarro, Undersecretary of Environmental Protection at the Baja California Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development.

The PET recovered in Mexicali will be transported to PetStar’s recycling plant, where it will be transformed into food-grade recycled resin and then reincorporated into the manufacturing of new containers, thereby closing the bottle-to-bottle cycle. 

For Carlos Mendieta, PetStar’s Director of Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability, the opening of this Center represents another step toward consolidating the infrastructure that makes the circular economy possible in Mexico: “The circular economy requires infrastructure to become a reality. Our network of 24 Collection Centers, strategically located across the territories of our shareholders, such as Arca Continental, allows us to bring this model closer to communities. Today, from Mexicali, we are strengthening this effort to recover and recycle PET and make the Bottle-to-Bottle process possible.”

For his part, Alberto de la Garza, Director of Arca Continental Mexico’s Pacific Region, emphasized: 

“This investment allows us to continue strengthening the infrastructure needed to recover and recycle an increasing number of containers while generating value for communities. At Arca Continental, together with PetStar and our partners, we will continue promoting actions that reinforce our leadership in the circular economy in Mexico." 

This investment is part of Arca Continental’s circular economy strategy, built around three priorities: Investing in Circularity, Developing the Recycling Value Chain, and Fostering a Recycling Culture.
