  • The new center will have the capacity to recover up to 54 million PET bottles per year.

  • The project will strengthen the local recycling chain and help generate approximately 650 indirect jobs in the region.

Chihuahua, Chihuahua, October 13, 2026. – Arca Continental, one of the world’s largest Coca-Cola bottlers and PetStar’s principal shareholder, invested MXN 26 million in a new PetStar Collection Center in Chihuahua. The facility was inaugurated together with Coca-Cola Mexico and PetStar, in collaboration with the Municipality of Chihuahua, to strengthen container recovery infrastructure and advance the circular economy in the region.

With the capacity to recover more than 1,200 tons of PET per year, equivalent to 54 million bottles, the new center will strengthen the local recycling chain by integrating 30 collection partners, primarily micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and will help generate approximately 650 indirect jobs for urban waste collectors and other participants in this activity.

The recovered PET will be transported to PetStar, the world’s largest food-grade PET recycling plant, located in the State of Mexico, where it will be transformed into food-grade recycled resin for the production of new containers, thereby closing the bottle-to-bottle cycle.

In addition, the center will feature a Vive PetStar Learning Center, a space open to the public, here tours and educational experiences will allow students, government officials, and community members to experience this circular economy model firsthand and understand the importance of recovering containers so they can be reincorporated into the production chain. “Given the climate emergency and biodiversity loss, it is essential for companies to place sustainability at the core of their business models. In this regard, I commend Arca Continental and Coca-Cola Mexico for their commitment to the circular economy through PetStar, a model that makes it possible to transform recovered bottles into new containers by incorporating recycled content”, said Ulises Alejandro Fernández Gamboa, Secretary of Innovation and Economic Development of Chihuahua.

According to Carlos Mendieta, Director of Public Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability at PetStar, “With the inauguration of our Collection Center and Vive PetStar Learning Center, we are strengthening local PET recovery, encouraging community participation, and demonstrating that, Bottle to Bottle, we make a difference by generating social, environmental, and economic value for Mexico.”

For his part, David Reyna Cantú, Arca Continental Northern Region Director, said: “This investment allows us to continue strengthening the infrastructure needed to recover and recycle more and more containers, while also generating value for communities. At Arca Continental, together with PetStar and our partners, we will continue advancing initiatives that reinforce our leadership in the circular economy in Mexico.”

As it marks 100 years since becoming the first Coca-Cola bottler in Mexico, Arca Continental continues to strengthen initiatives aligned with its sustainable business model to advance the circular economy for its packaging and continue generating shared value for the environment, people, and the communities where it operates.
