Guayaquil, Ecuador, August 29, 2019.-Arca Continental, one of the top Coca-Cola bottlers in the world, subscribed to the Circular Economy Pact promoted by the National Government of Ecuador in the framework of its 2030 National Agreement.

The pact establishes nine thematic pillars: waste exploitation and industrialization, eco-design, relationship with Academia, clean production, sustainable and resilient infrastructure, education to promote responsible consumption patterns, sustainable businesses, progressive replacement of single-use plastics, and development of indicators.

The signing of this pact complements other Circular Economy efforts that Arca Continental carries out in all its territories and its adherence to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as does its business strategy as a whole.

These initiatives  include, among others, the Development - Environment - Recycling program (DAR for its acronym in Spanish) whose goal is to create a culture of inclusive recycling in Ecuador and improve PET recovery through better economic, social, and organizational conditions for recyclers.

In Mexico, the company heads PetStar—the largest food grade PET recycling plant in the world—through which just in 2018 more than 1.64 billion PET bottles were recycled, which is equivalent to collecting 70% of the packages it markets.

The company has also implemented other innovations such as the Ciel water bottle in Mexico and the San Luis water bottle in Peru, both of which are made 100% out of recycled materials; it has also backed returnability initiatives in Argentina, in collaboration with The Coca-Cola Company.

Based on these and other initiatives, Arca Continental currently incorporates an average of 30% recycled content in its PET packaging in all its territories.

These actions contribute to complying with the goals established in tandem with The Coca-Cola Company in the World Without Waste strategy, whose goal is for 100% of packaging to be recyclable by the year 2030, and that it contains at least 50% recycled materials. This in addition to promoting the collection of 100% of the packaging that we put out into the market.

With initiatives such as these, Arca Continental ratifies its commitment to the planet through efforts that are aimed at generating solutions and ensuring an optimal enforcement of this new inclusive and environmentally-friendly way of doing business. They also serve to consolidate the company’s position as a point of reference in terms of environmental proposals that promote inclusive recycling and the reuse of packaging across all its territories.
