  • As part of their water security strategy, Arca Continental and Coca-Cola Mexico are allocating $47 million MXN to a project aimed at improving irrigation efficiency in productive regions of Chihuahua and Jalisco.

  • From the total investment, $26.5 million MXN was allocated to the state of Chihuahua to benefit 1,520 hectares of farmland in the Santa María River (Casas Grandes) and Conchos River (Delicias) basins, with an estimated annual replenishment of over 1 billion liters of water.

Delicias, Chihuahua – May 7, 2025. As part of their commitment to water security and sustainable development in the communities where they operate, Arca Continental—one of the largest Coca-Cola bottlers in the world—and Coca-Cola Mexico, in collaboration with the Government of the State of Chihuahua, announced the launch of the first phase of an agricultural modernization project in key river basins of Chihuahua and Jalisco. This initiative aims to optimize water use in agriculture and strengthen climate resilience.

This project is part of a national investment of $47 million MXN intended to improve irrigation efficiency in agricultural areas across two Mexican states.

The program is being implemented through Coca-Cola Company's “Aliados por el Agua” platform, which promotes multisector collaboration to offer alternatives that support water replenishment and access to the resource. It is supported by agrotechnology company Arable, specialized in real-time agricultural monitoring.

In Chihuahua, an investment of $26.5 million MXN is being used to support 1,520 hectares in the Santa María and Conchos River basins. This initiative is expected to replenish over 1 billion liters of water annually—equivalent to the yearly consumption of more than 6,000 people—with sustainable benefits lasting up to 10 years.

Through the installation of 38 smart irrigation sensors in the state, the project will provide farmers with accurate information about soil moisture, weather conditions, and crop health, enabling more efficient decision-making regarding water use. Bayer is participating as a local partner, providing technical support in the field.

Nationwide, the program envisions the intervention of more than 2,000 hectares, the installation of 70 smart sensors, and an estimated cumulative water savings of over 10 billion liters by 2030.

David Reyna, Director of the Northern Region of Arca Continental, stated: “At Arca Continental, we operate under a sustainable business model that creates value for everyone. With this initiative, we combine technology and collaborative efforts across sectors to contribute to more efficient water management and make a positive impact in our communities.”

Patricio Caso, Senior Director of Public Affairs, Communication, and Sustainability at Coca-Cola Mexico, added: “At Coca-Cola Mexico, we believe that major challenges—like water stewardship—are best addressed through genuine partnerships and teamwork. This project inspires us because it shows how combining technology with the knowledge of those who live and farm the land can drive change, contribute to basin replenishment, increase resource availability in communities, and strengthen them in the process.”

Jesús Valenciano, Mayor of Delicias, expressed: “I am deeply grateful to Arca Continental for their willingness and commitment to work not only here in Delicias but throughout Chihuahua, implementing precise actions that help fight climate change, honor nature by giving back what it provides, and look to the future through programs based on water technology and research that can be applied not only in agriculture but in many other activities.”

With this initiative, Arca Continental and Coca-Cola Mexico reaffirm their commitment to source conservation—a key pillar of their water security strategy—by implementing sustainable agricultural solutions that contribute to water replenishment in the basins where they operate and to the hydrological balance of the regions.
